McCoy's Ferry Camping Trip 3/18/17

Due to a late spring snow storm earlier in the week resulting in poor conditions on the C&O Canal, the bake hike was changed to a day at Antietam Battlefield National Park in Sharpsburg, MD. We drove from EUMC to the McCoy's Ferry campsite on the C&O Canal outside Clear Spring, MD. After claiming campsites and dropping the Troop trailer, we headed to the Antietam Battlefield. Following a short movie about the Civil War's bloodiest single day battle and a tour of the museum and gift shop, we sat on the back viewing area and had lunch. After lunch we toured the areas known as "The Bloody Lane" and Burnside's Bridge. After touring the battlefield, we headed back to McCoy's Ferry to set up camp. A beautiful day in low 60's gave way to a light evening rain. Following dinner and clean up most retired to their tents. The rain stopped around 2pm and the overnight temperature was in the mid 40's. Sunday morning we cooked breakfast, cleaned up, struck camp, packed up, held a brief devotional service, and he headed back to Stephenson. Attending the camping trip were 14 Scouts and 6 Leaders.
